Red Snapper Managed Services (RSMS) was commissioned by Trading Standards in 2019 to undertake a large number of test purchases over several regions where the sale of illicit tobacco had impacted the community. The project has continued throughout 2020 with some impressive results.
RSMS deployed highly trained, skilled and experienced Test Purchasers to obtain high quality and critical evidence to support prosecution cases, proving vital in several court cases.
James Jeram, RSMS Project Manager for this contract stated:
“RSMS officers conducted a total of 44 Test Purchases with our Trading Standards client to collate evidence on the sales of illicit tobacco. We are pleased to announce 84% of Test Purchases had successful sales with evidence provided to court. Our covert techniques and high quality evidential recordings are significant to all court cases. This has led to a number of closure notices and successful prosecutions.
RSMS are committed to working closely with our clients, supporting them in disrupting and detecting organised criminals. We will use the best techniques to gather the evidence. The sale of illegal tobacco, which is often linked to organised crime and other criminal activity, can cause distress in the areas they operate – this is not acceptable”.
RSMS support Trading Standards and other law enforcement authorities across the UK with their investigation support services. The service enables clients to present high quality evidence to court in cases including, but not limited to; sales of illicit tobacco and alcohol, fly tipping investigations, breaches against licensing and more.
